Description
USA SALES ONLY.........SORRYThese 2 documents relating to: 1) a 5000 Mark German Bond of the city of Frankfort issued prior to WWII (WW2); and
2) All of its redeemable certificates dating from 1923 to 1933. The issue date is 1 Apr. 1923 and it is signed by
the Mayor (Burgermeister)and, a member of the City Council (Stadtrat). The town's seal is adjacent the above date.
1923 is a significant date in Germany because it was the year that the Nazi Party took over the government.
1933 is also significant because it is the year Adolf Hitler became Chancellor.
Historically, in
1922 and thereafter hyper-inflation took off in Germany, with the mark falling in exchanges from 320 marks per dollar in mid-1922 to 7,400 marks per US dollar by December 1922. This hyperinflation continued into 1923, and by November 1923, one U.S. dollar was worth 4,210,500,000,000 marks. Hence,
this bond had virtually no value when issued and hence, the reason it was never redeemed.
A valuable pair of matching German documents relating to a critical period in Germany's history and especially one where terrible disasters lie ahead. To find both relating documents in this condition is extremely rare.
These will be shipped in a USPS Prioity Envelope for protection.
